The Duck & Herring Co. is currently accepting submissions for its Warm Weather and Cold Weather Pocket Field Guides.
Send us anything, except poetry or descriptions of craft projects. Your submission doesn't have to be related to a particular season. We like fiction, nonfiction, comedy pieces, lists, emails, and more.
Address your submission to editors@duckandherring.com. We will be in touch as soon as we can. (Attention: We had an email meltdown at the end of the year 2007; if you sent us something and haven't heard back, please send it again. Sorry for the inconvenience.)
You might also consider sending us a seasonal to-do; guidelines here. And if you're into radio or podcasting, here are our submission guidelines for that.
The Duck & Herring Co. is investigating the aural web media craze with occasional podcasts. We're looking for anything podcastable, as long as we think its entertaining, and especially if we can learn something from it, too: you interviewing your mother; you taking dance lessons and sucking at it; you and your friends making us laugh with your funny, funny skits; you standing in the middle of a hurricane and filing a report, like those weather people do (take this assignment at your own risk); you reciting entries from your sister's diary, and then getting busted for it; you get the idea. Think Ira Glass meets YouTube. Send in a simple, relatively small MP3 file to podcasts@duckandherring.com.
The Duck & Herring Co. prides itself on creating a form of media that doubles as a drink coaster, a pillow for your butt, a paper product you can use to dry the sweat (or tears) off your face, etc. In other words, we appreciate anyone that can creatively abuse their PFG and then send us a picture of it. So, send us a picture in jpg format of your abused PFG, and we'll probably post the picture here. Be as creative in your picture-taking as you want. No nudity please. pfgpictures@duckandherring.com
Each issue, The Duck & Herring Co.'s Pocket Field Guides contain a popular section called Seasonal To-Dos. These to-dos are suggestions offered from the D&H gallery on things you should do to enhance your seasonal experience. If you would like to see an example of our to-dos, the ones that are printed in the most recent Pocket Field Guide are offered on this site.
Do you have a to-do you would like to share with D&H readers? Send it to seasonaltodos@duckandherring.com. Make sure it has something to do with "warm weather" or "cold weather," because we operate on two seasons here. You will not receive credit for the to-do; we don't even give ourselves credit. But if we choose to print your to-do, you have our permission to tell everyone that you were published by The Duck & Herring Co. How's that?
